'We All Have A Shadow' Original Oil Painting

1/6 ‘Morphing’ Mini Series.

This painting was inspired by Carl Jung’s Analytical Psychology, seeing the different guides and layers to the humans unconscious self. He expresses that our primitive past becomes the basis of our current psyche. We repress a lot of things of this past, we even show a public persona to all which is not always our true self, even if you think it is, it’s not really the whole picture of you.

This is because of social adaptation, we must conform to the norm of behavior around us. But when our shadow knocks at the door, sometimes we have outbursts either internally or externally.

“The Shadow” is an archetype which makes up the parts of us that we disengage with and reject. It’s an animalistic side to our personality. This doesn’t mean it’s negative, it’s just there. We often project unlikeable traits onto others as a reflection of our own shadow.
This is why they say if someone bullies you, they are just jealous or feel bad about their own selves. I very much agree to that.

Everyone has a dark side, even the nicest, sweetest soul alive. Jung says to truly confront and live with the shadow you must live it out in acknowledgment every day.

Don’t be afraid to integrate these darker aspects of your personality into your life, as long as you’re not hurting anyone.

I want this painting to show that it is quite the contrast against each other, warm against cool colors-with some highlights featuring the variations of each of these traits. Notice that the colors aren’t separate on opposite sides the canvas, they MORPH into each other with an attempt of a smooth blend.
