'Bethesda Fountain' Original Oil Painting
Painted ‘in plein air’ from life on a brisk afternoon in Central Park in late September, I chose the attraction of Bethesda Fountain to focus on. With exaggerated colors, I wanted to add a bit of a fauvist view onto the water. This is a spot of Central Park which is located on the Upper West Side, a neighborhood that many come to visit each year. The pure artistry of the form of the fountain is enough to be the focal point here, however the contrast of nature in the background adds a unique element to the canvas.
Measurements are 14x11 and one inch deep for width. Comes ready to hang with hook and wire. Created in 2022.

The Process |
For this painting on site, I brought my portable tabletop easel with me, paints, jars of solvents, and all other supply materials. I placed the tabletop easel on a nearby ledge of the squares construct. I begun by sketching out the composition of the piece with a thin wash of turpentine and paint. I then added in thick dabs and strokes of paint, not by layering due to the fast completion time. Instead, the method of placing the colors next to each other while slightly blending was my option. I enjoyed the fresh breeze of the park, the many live performers, and many pedestrians commenting on and observing my work. Here, is the perfect way to capture the pure energy of the city, when you’re in it yourself. I hope to transfer the vibes of New York to the collector of this painting. I know it will add a new type of light to your space.
