'Our Felt Experience' Oil Painting Concept Statement
*Reposted from August 8, 2023*
Our experience is shared. Many parallel feelings, thoughts, and experiences all come to merge with our neighbors on a very similar plane. We all go through these stages of life that are established in our human physical and soul existence.
It can be difficult to love everyone around you as if they were your true friend. I believe as a society we struggle with treating each other with genuine compassion, even though we can all relate to the same created suffering the person next to you may be feeling. To be kind to a stranger let alone an enemy, is a seemingly un-relative task to your own personal life. Why should softly smiling to a passing face, or taking a couple seconds to hold the door behind you for someone even matter?
It so badly matters, because it has to do with loosing a sense of the selfish ego we all hold within us. We are humans, waking up, going to work, managing to-dos, while simultaneously working through difficult feelings that creep through the ones of purity. Your energy towards others is a reflection of the relationship with yourself.
We can work together to ease this sense of suffering. We can create a world that is kind.
To do this starts with an understanding of the self and loosing an inflation of the toxic ego mind. I believe there are many outlets to loose this. Art can be used as a deep healing mechanism, it is an organic way of seeing a window into a collective soul. There is always waves of connection to this. We tend to come in and out of focus on things, and it is our job to bring ourselves back.
Our reality meets the unseen through art and then can begin to heal.
For me, painting is the form of art that I can feel the deepest resonance with. I believe we all can feel a sensation of curiosity while looking upon a creation which came from within the soul. Art is not only a physical representation of emotion, but it truly holds a sacred energy that we all can connect with. It just takes an open mind, a loss of ego, and a loss of knowing. You don’t have to gain anything to relate to a work of art. You just have to loose the negative thinking mind. Art is a felt experience that comes to us through an artists tools of resonance.
I created this during a mental state of deep love for others. I was walking alongside the Hudson River in New York just before creating this. I saw the beautiful expressions of young and old humans that were enjoying being outside that same moment as I happened to be there. I felt an inner sense of pure love and compassion to every type of human that exists. I let go of any self infused thought for a moment and just felt. I came home and felt the need not to paint forms, but to create an abstract release of feelings. I merged all colors on the spectrum including simple shades to bleed into one another. To just reside peacefully on this 8x10 inch canvas that was waiting in my space so it can be used as a surface to communicate a felt conception.
I had no sketch done, no planning, no thoughts, just a mergence with a true flow state of creating that was within me.
I hope you can get something out of my creation, as I made it based on all of us. You are a part of my art practice. I see you and I feel you. If I know you, if we no longer talk, or if we never even communicated before, thank you for taking the time out of your precious day to read into my jumble of thoughts and feelings linked to my painting ‘Our Felt Experience’.
